Food for Thought
Food for Thought is a joint research project between the Georgia Tech Interactive Media Center and the NC State Psychology Department. The goal of the project is to create a game targeted at the elderly that is cognitively stimulating and takes advantage of the complex processes involved with multitasking and performing various tasks (in this case cooking tasks) while remaining enjoyable and avoiding making a “test question game”. I came into the project during the requirements gathering phase. I studied papers on interaction constraints unique to the elderly and helped analyze footage from an NC State experiment recording nursing home patients play several hours of Boom Blox. After we had a grasp on the general requirements I brainstormed various ideas for our cooking mini-games, organized potential recipe “levels”, and began making rough prototypes for said mini-games.
